Resumen:
The present work aims to shed light on the properties of methanol as an alternative fuel to conventional fossil fuels, as well as to determine the characteristics of its performance in engines and heating systems. In addition, it reviews the alcohol synthesis processes to determine how they can be transitioned towards more sustainable methanol production processes, which use renewable raw materials that are not food sources, as is the case with the synthesis of other alcohols. Thus, the text describes waste utilization processes and CO2 hydrogenation for methanol synthesis. Finally, the chapter focuses on the current uses of methanol as a fuel that have growth potential and could determine a mass migration to this fuel. What is exposed here allows reasoning that the properties of methanol make it an attractive, plausible, and sustainable combustible.
