Resumen:
The Auquilco Formation constitutes a thick evaporit stratigraphic unit that crops out in the northwestern area of the Neuquen Province. It is mainly composed by anhidrite and gypsum beds, and includes remarkable opal-chalcedony lents. The origin of this opal has been discused previously, and under new evidences of its mineralogy and X-rays, a mechanism for this silica genesis is herein proposed.
