Resumen:
One of the major applications of tissue-engineered skin scaffolds isto promote the healing of acute and chronic wounds. Once set onto the wound bed and seeded with keratinocytes, skin scaffolds act as a template for dermal and epidermal formation. Among the aspects mediating healing, the main mechanisms of action are: (i) colonization of the scaffold by live fibroblasts, (ii) provision of a suitable substrate for the attachment and proliferation ofkeratinocytes, and (iii) transfer of growth factorsfrom the fibroblasts of the wound bedto enhance keratinocytes proliferation and differentiation, without direct interaction of the two cell types. The aim of this work is to assess:the cytotoxicity of the scaffolds, the migration of fibroblasts through the scaffold, and the proliferation of keratinocytes seeded onto the scaffolds. The conclusion is the feasibility of 3D porous scaffolds produced in our lab to achieve the main features of scaffolds suitable for skin regeneration.
