Resumen:
Background. Different reactivities of saphenous veingrafts in hypertensive and normotensive patients couldlead to differences in the postoperative patency of thegrafts.Methods. In saphenous vein rings isolated from remnantsof aorta-coronary grafts obtained from hypertensiveand normotensive patients we studied the lengthtensionrelationship; response to high levels of potassium, norepinephrine, and epinephrine; and relaxation in responseto calcium deprivation.Results. The rings from hypertensive patients werestiffer and developed more force (grams force/gramsweight) than the rings from normotensive subjects to 80mmol/L potassium (59 6 16 versus 25 6 5, p < 0.05) andto 1 mmol/L norepinephrine (61 6 8 versus 36 6 7, p
