Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) residues in sediments from Las Brusquitas (LBC) and La Tapera (LTC) creeks, located in the southeastern region of Buenos Aires Province were analyzed by GC-ECD. Results showed that L TC had higher PCB pollution than LBC with mean concentrations of 999 and 203 (ng/g OC), respectively. The stations near urban areas showed the highest PCB concentrations, as a result of anthropogenic influence, and PCB concentrations in the L TC outfall were 3-times greater than those in the LBC outfall. The distribution of PCBs congeners was similar with samples from both sites being dominated by more chlorinated compounds. These results are consistent with in-situ pollution rather than long-range transport.
