The distribution and accumulation of cadmium, copper, zinc and mercury in muscle, kidney and liver were studied in catfish (Rhamdia quelen) of Nahuel Rucá Lagoon. Metal determinations were performed by AAS with air/acetylene flame and cold vapor techniques. All tissues presented similar metal distribution, being Zn > Cu > Hg. Cadmium concentrations were below of the detection limit. Maximum mercury concentrations were found in muscle, while copper and zinc maximum levels were in liver and kidney respectively. Burden of three metals were highest in liver. Essential metal concentrations did not demonstrate to accumulate, while burdens demonstrated increases with total length.
