Inspired by the microstructure of many color feather barbs, which combine a spongy matrix (SM) and melanin (m) pigment, this work investigates the influence of melanin granules on the optical response of a weakly disordered photonic crystal. To do this, the Korringa-KohnRostoker combined with the Inner Extinction Approximation (KKR-IEA) method is used, which allows to calculate the reflectance of structures formed by layers of homogeneous materials and layers of spheres, with a low degree of disorder [1,2]. We also present results obtained with the Integral Method (IM) applied to regular and random arrangements of infinite cylinders.
