In this work, the dynamic optimisation of a boiler is addressed to obtain optimal parameters for controllers, together with profiles for differential and state variables.  A realistic combustion is taken into account using a specific amount of air excess in order to eliminate products of incomplete combustion. Mass, heat and momentum balances are formulated in risers, drum and superheater. The optimisation problem with differential algebraic (DAE system) constraints is solved discretising the DAE system by collocation on finite elements and solving the resulting nonlinear programming problem with a reduced SQP algorithm.
