Resumen:
Modernity, Postmodernity, Culture, and Representations of Work in the Discourse of the Argentine Extremely Poor This chapter analyses the cultural differences between modern and postmodern capitalist logic in relation to the way in which work is represented in the discourse of the homeless inhabitants of Buenos Aires city. Modern society is slowly but surely turning postmodern, thereby changing from a producers? into a consumers? society, from a work ethic-orientated society into one ruled by consumer aesthetics. The theoretical framework has been provided by Cultural Discourse Studies. Qualitative methods have been applied. The Information Hierarchy notion is used, as conceived by the School of Prague and reformulated by Pardo. The corpus is made up of life-story interviews with over sixty homeless people above seventeen years of age living in Buenos Aires city.
