Resumen:
Effects of deltamethrin sublethal exposure were evaluated on nymphs III of Triatoma infestans (Klug) in relation with malaoxon and paraoxon toxicity, activity of detoxifying enzymes, and changes in meal ingestion and individual weight. Exposure of nymphs III to 0.14 µg per square centimeter deltamethrin films during 17 hours showed synergism on malaoxon toxicity. The synergism produced by seven days of exposure continued at least one week after interrupting the exposure. Moreover, a change in malaoxon toxicity was observed at different exposure times, not only in treated but also in control insects, suggesting a phenomenon not related with the pyrethroid exposure. Paraoxon toxicity was not affected by previous exposure to 0.07-0.56 µg per square centimeter deltamethrin films. Alterations in the activity of non specific esterases and gluthation S-transferases has not been observed, neither in exposed insect homogenates nor in homogenates incubated with the insecticide. Futhermore, exposure of nymphs III to 0.28 µg per square centimeter deltamethrin films has produced any change neither on individual weight nor on meal ingestion.
