IUPAP Policies to Increase Inclusion

People of all genders are equally good in doing excellent science and deserve equal opportunity. It is increasingly clear that scientific careers are strongly affected by social and cultural factors, and are not determined solely by merit. The search for excellence that unites all scientists can be maintained and enhanced by increasing the diversity of its practitioners. In this session, Marcia Barbosa, the First Chair of the IUPAP Working Group on Women in Physics, will talk about what has changed since the creation of the Working Group and what still needs to be done to have a fully diverse and inclusive physics community. Silvina Ponce Dawson, IUPAP Vice-President with Gender Champion duties, will describe the current IUPAP policies and initiatives to help increase diversity and inclusion in physics. She will also give data on the participation of women at IUPAP conferences and on the worldwide situation on gender in physics collected through the 2018 Global Survey of Scientists. A brief discussion on how to move from now on will ensue.
