The impact on IUPAP of the Working Group on Women in Physics

The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics is the only international scientific union devoted to all areas of physics. Organized and run by physicists from all over the world it has the mission of assisting in the worldwide development of physics, fostering international cooperation in physics and helping in the application of physics toward solving problems of concern to humanity. IUPAP´s Working Group on Women in Physics (WG5) was created in 1999 with the mandate of surveying the situation of women physicists and suggesting means to improve it. Since then, the working group has carried out a series of actions that had an enormous impact on IUPAP´s structure and activities. In this talk I will give a brief description of IUPAP´s structure and activities and will then focus on the number of actions that it has undertaken based on recommendations and resolutions produced by WG5.
