Resumen:
In this article I describe the presentations and discussions associated to the panel "Latin America: achievements in the region and expectations from IUPAP", which took place during the IUPAP Centennial Symposium of July 2022. This panel included the participation of the Past Chair of the Ibero-American Association of Physical Societies, Arturo Martí, the Director of the Latin American Center for Physics and President of the Chilean Physical Society, Luis Huerta, the Chair of the IUPAP Working Group on Women in Physics and Past Chair of the Network of Science, Technology and Gender, Lilia Meza Montes and the Vice-president of the Brazilian Physical Society and Director of LNNano/CNPEM, Rodrigo Capaz. I was the panel’s convener. Based on the discussions we concluded that the IUPAP can play an important role in the region helping build networks of collaboration through the support of conferences, workshops and schools and by means of specific projects that can also strengthen local communities, especially in the least developed countries. The provision of guidelines of good practice, particularly, to increase diversity and inclusion, is another key aspect of the contributions of IUPAP in the region.
