Resumen:
Thepresence of fibres controls the initiation and propagation of cracks inconcrete, limiting the crack widths, improving concrete durability and, as aconsequence, the structural service live. The relationship between the cracklevel and the transport properties in plain and fibre reinforced concreteincorporating 40 kg/m3 of steel hooked-end fibres or 4 kg/m3of macro-synthetic fibres is analyzed in this work. For that purpose cracksbetween 0.03 and 0.50 mm width were generated in 150x150x50 mm specimensthrough splitting tensile tests. The crack pattern was characterized and thensorptivity and water permeability tests were done for assessing differenttransport mechanisms. In addition tests on undamaged specimens were performedas a reference. While all concretes showed similar behaviour in the sorptivitytest, the coefficient of permeability grew with the crack width; above crackwidths of 0.2 mm the macro-synthetic fibre concrete permeability grew furtherthan in the case of the steel fibre reinforced concrete.
