Resumen:
This Casamayoran armadillo provides the only known evidence of the skull structure in xenarthrans prior to the Oligocene. An endocranial cast of the neotype was prepared and studied in order to make comparisons with living Dasypodidae. The brain of U. buccatus has a single prominent neocortical sulcus in the frontoparietal part of each hemisphere and an ininterrupted rhinal fissure. This inferred neocortex is very different from the neocortical model that characterizes living armadillos.
