Resumen:
The behavior of the crosswise flow, measured on an existing T-shaped bifurcation located on a branch of the Paraná River (Argentina), is analyzed. River bottom surveying with an echo sounder and 3D velocity measurements with an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) were undertaken in several cross sections of the study site. Secondary currents driven by centripetal acceleration effects were consistently detected in several cross sections, following a procedure specially designed for the ADCP data to project the captured velocity field. Additionally, two pressure gauges were deployed on both sides of the channel, capturing a strong lateral gradient of the free surface in coincidence with the theoretical description of the process
