Resumen:
The transport equation has been the workhorse for testing numerical methods to cope with hyperbolic-parabolic type of behaviors. In this work different methods for solving the 1D advection-dispersion equation are presented. They are based on the Quickest’s Method, the Particle Tracking Method and the Method of the Characteristics. They, in turn, can be classified into three broad categories: Eulerian, Lagrangian and Eulerian-Lagrangian methods, respectively. The transport of conservative substances is simulated for various cell Peclet numbers. The results show the numerical stability of the different schemes here proposed as well as their accuracy for practical applications.
