Their role in depression treatment nowadays is reserved for atypical, treatment resistant depression. However, many authors refer to MAOI as one of the most effective agents in their function. Resveratrol (trans-3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) a polyphenol component found mainly in grape and Polygonum cuspidatum, has been reported to have antidepressant-like effects, along with other functions . The aim of this research was to compare the effects and doses between Resveratrol and Tranylcypromine.Materials and MethodsHoltzman derived rats weighting 280 to 330 g were treated with intraperitoneal injections of Saline solution, Tranylcipromine 2,5 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg. A total of 4 groups were evaluated: Saline + Saline; Saline + Tranylcipromine 2,5 mg/kg (T 2.5); Saline + Tranylcipromine 5 mg/kg (T 5); Saline + Tranylcipromine 10 mg/kg (T 10); Saline + Resveratrol 60 mg/kg (R60); Saline + Resveratrol 90 mg/kg (R90);Saline + Resveratrol 30 mg/kg (R30).30 minutes later, they were summited to the Forced Swimming Test in which Climbing, Swimming and Resting time were analysed.Statistical Analysis was performed by using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Student-Newman-Keuls for each behavior.
