Resumen:
High-latitude coasts are composed dominantly by coarse-grained sediments derivedfrom Pleistocene glaciations. These inherited composition led to gravel armouringeither of beaches or spits. The expectance for the anthropogenic-induced sea-levelrise will be therefore attenuated due to this resistance of gravel beaches. Severalexamples from the Patagonian and Fuegian coasts are described and analysed.Armouring, migration and cannibalisation of gravel spits should be considered in orderto forecast the evolution of these coasts in relation to sea-level rise.
