Resumen:
We report observations of extreme events (or dissipativeoptical rogue waves) in a laser with a modulated parameter(cavity losses). Experimental data supporting the hypothesisthat these events are related with multi-stability and externalcrises is presented. It is also shown that the time separationbetween a pulse and an extreme event can be predicted moreaccurately than that between pulses of average intensity, inagreement with the theoretical description and opening theroad to the prediction and control of extreme opticalevents.
