Resumen:
The early results of the first experimental study of pattern formation in a high Fresnel number dye laser (class A laser)are presented. It was observed that pattern complicate with increasing Fresnel number up to some value close to 20, after which they tend to simplify. Neither temporal dynamics nor mode beating were observed, what is considered an indication of the existence of a phenomenon of cooperative frequency locking. Doubts remain regarding the expected CW pumping threshold value for pattern formation and the origin of power fluctuations when the laser is tuned with an intracavity grating.
