Resumen:
Several extremely potent growth inhibitors of Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite responsible for Chagas´s disease, were able to impair proliferation of T84 colon tumor cell line. Interestingly, in most cases drugs with ultrapotent activity as antiproliferative T. cruzi agents shown to be moderately active towards these tumor cells, while compounds with modest trypanostatic action exhibited vanishing action as antitumor agents. The selectivity observed against these two types of rapidly dividing cells enforces the idea that these trypanostatic agents are not only lead drugs but also are good chemotherapeutic candidates.
