Resumen:
is a risk for periodontitis and osteoporosis development. Although oral bone loss and osteoporosis have different etiologies, they may share the mechanism involved in bone mass loss: increment of inflammatory cytokines and proteases that stimulate bone resorption. Bone markers are useful tools to measure bone remodeling, currently they are assessed in serum and urinary samples however there is little information concerning its measurement in saliva. In the present study bone markers in saliva of Wistar ovariectomized rats (OVX) with established osteopenia and after an anticatabolic treatment were studied. Twenty four  OVX rats after 60 days of surgery were divided in 3 groups which were treated for 40 days as follows: vehicle (Vh), 4 ug and 8 ug Olpadronate (OPD)(Gador Argentina/100 g rat. A SHAM groups was evaluated as control. Fasting serum and saliva sample after stimulation with pilocarpine were collected. CTX (ng/ml) and b-AP (IU/L) were measured in both samples by (RatLabs, Osteometer Bio Tech, Denmark) and by spectrometry after a selective wheat germ lectine precipitation, respectively. Results show that salivary and serum samples have a similar behavior against the anticatabolic treatment.  Grant from UBA M099.
