Resumen:
As a result of significant changes in economic and social order were crystallizing in the turn of the century, various effects on the health of populations. This sequence of changes, called transitions, was generated a new epidemiological profile where NCDs became the most prevalent. One of these, obesity, with some novel features, expanded to be considered a pandemic that was affecting increasingly younger populations. The situation is even more serious considering that obesity has not displaced the effects of nutritional deficiencies but has been added to these. The coexistence of obesity and deficiency of specific nutrients, called double burden of malnutrition, is the main feature of the nutritional transition. Calcium deficiency is one of these cases and according to a series of investigations; it would metabolically associated with the presence of obesity. Both anomalies are a problem in itself in childhood but also increase morbidity and mortality of these individuals on their way to adulthood.
