Resumen:
The formic acid oxidation reaction (FAO) was evaluated on palladium nanostructured films supported on glassy carbon in 0.5 M H2SO4 + x M HCOOH solutions, where 0.5 ≤ x ≤ 8.0, in the potential range 0.2 ≤ Es / V ≤ 0.6 vs. RHE at 25ºC. The analysis of the obtained results at open circuit potential, chronoamperometric experiments and stripping voltammetry, allowed us to conclude that, at constant potential, the highest electrocatalytic activity corresponds to x = 2.0 M. Additionally, the formation of β-PdH hydride at open circuit potential and the absence of COad were verified for all the evaluated concentrations, throughout the analyzed potential range. Finally, previous studies where the presence of COad was informed were analyzed. It was concluded that the detected COad is not an active FAO reaction intermediate, but rather a secondary product originated from the electroreduction of the CO2 formed during the electrooxidation of HCOOH.
