Resumen:
About 200 scientists of the Ordovician participated as authors and co-authors of the short-papers that compose Ordovician from the Andes, the proceedings volumen of the 9th International Symposium on the Ordovician System. As a whole, the volume assemblages 94 papers devoted to cutting-edge research on Lower Paleozoic topics around the world, which are presented as oral or poster mode in the symposium program. The title pf the volume, Ordovician from the Andes, reflects the location of the major Ordovician basin in South America; that is, in the majestic Andean Cordillera. It also alludes to the location of the venue, San Juan City, at the foothills of the Andes, surrounded by Ordovician exposures. Ordovician from the Andes is structured into six embracing themes:1) Biostratigraphy-Stratotypes, 2) Geochronology-bentonites, 3)Geochemistry-Magmatism,4) Paleontology-Biodiversifiation,5)  Sedimentology-Basin Analysis, 6) Paleogeography-Provincialism. The contents involve an exceptional diversity of issues that highlight the complexity of the Ordovician System, representing a period of Earth history with distinctive characteristics and events that simulate exciting research. We dedicate the Proceedings of the 9th ISOS to the memory of  Dr. Bruno A. Baldis (deceased on May 27, 1997), who always kept the strong desire to held this worldwide event in Argentina.                                   Yours editors, Guillermo Albanesi, Matilde Beresi and Silvio Peralta                                                                                   August, 2003
