Resumen:
The report describes counts and trends of South American fur seals in Uruguay. Authors used digital aerial photography to count the fur seals, and also derived a correction factor for adjusting the photographic counts based on ground counts conducted at the same time. Photographic counts being published in the report were not very accurate. The pup estimates of abundances of SAFS in Uruguay reported here for the first time using methods comparable to those employed elsewhere are thus highly relevant for future management plans for the conservation and protection of this species in other parts of its range.
