Mesoporous materials are being investigated for potencial applications in catalysis and separations. Catalytic effect of MCM-41 nanostructured materials on the Flash Vacuum Pyrolysis (FVP) reactions of ketone 2-(1H-1,2,3-benzotriazol-1-il)-1-feniletanona (1) was studied in this work. Previous results have showed this ketone under homogenous FVP systems (without catalysts) afford the bycyclic azepinone 7H-dibenzo[b,d]azepin-7-one (2) between 450-550ºC. When thermal reactions were carried out on MCM-41 mesoporous materials (Ti-MCM-41 and Al-MCM-41) substrate’s reactivity increased and process’s temperatures decrease in 100ºC. Mainly products were azepinone (2) and phenanthridine (3), the latter was formed by decarbonylation reaction of 2. Pyrolysate’s composition is depending on the nature of cation and Si/Metal ratio of the mesoporous material.
