The corrosion behaviour of a polypyrrole (PPy) coating constituted by hollow rectangular microtubes was monitored in physiological solution (0.15 M NaCl) using different electrochemical measurements (open circuit potential (OCP), potentiostatic polarization, etc.) The coating waselectrosynthesized onto Nitinol (equiatomic Ni and Ti alloy (NiTi)) using a salicylate (Sa) solution. The resulting coating provided a very good corrosion resistance to the substrate. It was also found that PPy film with granular morphology electrodeposited from a Sa solution with lowerconcentration was unable to protect the substrate from the pitting corrosion process. In addition, the immobilization of silver species on the hollow rectangular microtubes of PPy was studied as a function of polymer oxidation degree, where the presence of Sa plays an important role. Finally, the antibacterial activity of the coating against the Grampositive Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria was evaluated.
