In our laboratory we have studied a deoxygenation reaction by photoinduced electron transfer (PET). It involves the derivatization of the HO to be reduced as an ester of 3-trifluormetilbenzoílo (TFMBz) and the use of 9-metilcarbazol (MCZ) as photosensitizer. If the HO to reduce presents a carbonyl at position 2, the reaction occurs easily due to the stabilization of the intermediate radical.
