A recurrent motive in the supramolecular assembly of coordination compounds with 2,6-bis(benzimidazol-2-yl) piridine (Bzimpy) and two identical H-bond acceptor co-ligands: [Cd(Ac)2(Bzimpy)], [Zn(Ac)2(Bzimpy)]?H2O (Ac: acetato) and related compounds

Resumen:
We report the crystal structures of two novelcoordination compounds with similar complex composition:[Cd(Ac)2(Bzimpy)] (I) and [Zn(Ac)2(Bzimpy)]H2O(II). Both compounds are monomeric. Compound I consistsof a Cd(II) center heptacoordinated with three Natoms from a Bzimpy molecule and four O atoms from twobidentate acetato molecules. Compound II consists of aZn(II) center pentacoordinated with three N atoms from aBzimpy molecule and two O atoms from two monodentateacetato molecules. A non-coordinated water moleculecompletes the formula. In addition, we highlight somecommon features in the supramolecular assembly of bothcompounds and with similar structures deposited in theversion 5.33 of the CSD. This assembly occur throughH-bridges and p?p offset stacked interactions, giving riseto the formation of what we call ??directed ring?? of twotypes: two molecular components 2Rd and three molecularcomponents 3Rd. Structures are viewed as composed ofwell defined substructures in order to analyze them.
