Photochemistry, ESI-MS, absorption and luminescence spectroscopy as complementary tools in UV-MALDI-MS analysis of carbohydrates

   In order to shed some light in the conditions that must fulfill the pair analyte-matrix to get the intact molecular ion efficiently, we studied the UV-MALDI process of acetyl and benzoyl derivatives of a basic sugar (N-(b-D-glucopyranosyl)pyperidine) with different matrices  (Scheme 1)     Comparison of UV-MALDI-TOF-MS obtained by using nor-harmane, GA, SA and CHC as matrix showed that the basic carbohydrates studied cannot be analyzed properly by using GA, SA and CHC
