Resumen:
We have recently
reported the synthesis of a series of o-carboranyl
methylalcohols bearing pyridine substituents.[1]
The presence of two different functionalities (OH and N) in these compounds
opens a new door to obtain very attractive carborane based transition metal
complexes which could exhibit interesting magnetic, thermal and structural
behavior.[2]
In this work we explore the coordination chemistry of such compounds and those
of related quinolyl derivatives (Figure). Our first results on Co(II) show how
the variation of the position of the N atom in the aromatic rings and the
inclusion of substitutents, either in the carborane cluster or the nitrogenated
rings, give place to the possibility of modulate their molecular interactions
which finally lead to different structural characteristics and properties.
