Resumen:
A methodology is developed to select the optimal configuration of power plants of the Argentinean interconnected electricity network. The electricity generation system in Argentina has fossil fuels, hydroelectric and nuclear power plants. The main objective is to select the power plants in operation connected to the grid, to supply fixed demands, minimizing life cycle greenhouse gas emissions and operating cost. Greenhouse emissions are estimated considering emissions during the entire life cycle of each electricity generation option. The optimization problem includes continuous and binary variables representing the interconnected system operation and power plant life cycle emissions. A mixed integer linear programming problem is formulated and solved in GAMS.
