Among organic catalysts, N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) 1, 2 are those that have shown enormous catalytic potential in number of organic reactions; their structural diversity, their rates and selectivities are indeed competitive with the most active metal-based or enzymatic catalysts. The objectives of our research is to demonstrate that NHCs can serve in many more polymerizations that just the ROP of carbonyl-containing monomers.
