Resumen:
Using equations of state for modeling the phase behavior of hydrocarbonsand reservoir fluids is not really something new. Part of the researchcommunity may even have the impression that it is practically an exhaustedfield. Nevertheless, there are problems yet to be solved, new applications, challenges and a renewed interest in the area, partially due to the existenceof important shale resources in several regions around the world and morespecific challenges like those presented by the Presalt in Brazil. In particular, there is also the extended idea that limitationsencountered within the use of classic models like SRK and PR would have theirroots in their cubic nature but, at least in relation to the behavior ofasymmetric mixtures, it has been recently shown that clear and systematicimprovements can be made by incorporating a third compound specific parameter, which is related to the shape or configuration of the molecule, playing a rolewhich is comparable to that of the number of segments m parameter in SAFT models.Thistalk will focus on the already 10 years old RKPR EoS, highlighting recent achievements, paying special attention to the modeling of gas condensates, and addressingalso opportunities in new applications like partition of hydrocarbon fluids incontact with kerogen.
