Resumen:
RAFT polymerization is one of the most versatile controlled radical polymerization techniques. It allows achieving complex molecular architectures and is compatible with several monomers. Numerous studies have addressed the modeling of RAFT systems. However, most of them focused on average molecular properties. Even though some works included prediction of the complete MWD, those studies applied simplifications that limit their potential. In this work, a mathematical model of a RAFT polymerization system capable of predicting the full MWD is developed. This model involves the use of probability generating functions that allow obtaining reliable outcomes at a higher speed than other methods of similar accuracy. Additionally, the model provides detailed information on the molecular structure of the polymer that is very useful for gaining insight in the process fundamentals and for the process operation.
