Resumen:
A numerical method for solving the population balance for continuous crystallizers and granulation units has been developed. This technique has been tested with examples that include only the growing of the embryo crystals or particles. A method to include terms to account for attrition or agglomeration has also been introduced. The Cases of study were compared to the solution of the population balance equation with a high degree Runge-Kutta solving procedure for different simulation conditions, and complete agreement was obtained. Due to its numerical nature, the method proves useful when an analytic solution is not possible and only empirical information of the system is available.
