Resumen:
The Balbiani body (Bb) is a large membrane-less organelle, denselypacked with mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, proteins and RNA. The Bb is presentin many vertebrate female gametes. In frogs, the Bb is established early duringoogenesis and operates as a maternal inherited embryonic determinant thatspecifies germline identity through the formation of germ plasm. We describehere two techniques to isolate the Bb/germ plasm from Xenopus laevis primary oocytes.
