Resumen:
We studied age changes in learning and memory, hippocampal morphology and transcriptome in female rats. In the Barnes Maze Task, senile rats displayed significant deficits in both learning and  memory parameters. In the hippocampus, there is a dramatic reduction in the neurogenesis rate and a significantly increased number of reactive microglial cells in the senile Stratum Radiatum. Our hippocampal RNA-Seq data showed that several genes involved in the immune response are overexpressed in the hippocampus of senile rats, for example TYROBP, CD11b, C3, CD18, CD4, and CD74.
