Resumen:
There is interest on the use of magnesium alloys in biomedical applications as biodegradable materials, especially in the orthopaedic and cardiovascular fields. The degradation in vivo is possibly too slow for a complete absorption of the device, accompanied with a too rapid loss of mechanical properties, because of pitting corrosion. Different corrosion studies under in vitro and in vivo conditions have already been reported, but it was not yet presented an experimental protocol convenient for the electrochemical investigation of magnesium, whose high dissolution rates makes difficult the correct assessment of its corrosion resistance. The aim of this work was to assess the influence of the electrolyte composition on the electrochemical behaviour of magnesium alloys, as a basis the determination of the corrosion processes of magnesium alloys in biological media.
