Resumen:
In the photodynamic therapy (PDT) a photosesitizer (PS) is administrated and accumulated in the tumoral tissue, and after the illumination of the lesion with visible light in the presence of oxygen, the affected region is destroyed due to the generation of cytotoxic species. Thomas J. Dougherty (1978) pionnered PDT experiments employing derivatized hematoporphyrins derivatized hematoporphyrins (HpD) and Laser radiation of 633 nm in humans. The use of alternative ligth sources may result in a more suitable proccedure for some pathologies. In this communication we present characteristics of LED-based ligth sources useful for PDT and the employing of mTHPC (temoporfin) as sensitizer. HeLa cells (from human cervix cancer) and cells from a murin fibrosarcoma (TMC), were used as models for testing ligth soures. Furthermore a comparison with a laser source is presented.
