Resumen:
Short abstract: The zero valent iron (ZVI) technique has proven to be an effective method in arsenic removal from drinking water. Continuous studies using packed columns with iron wool were carried out in order to evaluate the most favorable operating conditions and to estimate the reaction rates of the most important steps involved in the heterogeneous process. The results suggested that the flow rate and the iron amount are important parameters to optimize since they determine the corrosion rates. Adjusting these parameters it is possible to obtain high efficiencies of arsenic removal and long service times of the fixed ZVI-beds.
