Resumen:
The aim of this work was to demonstrate that when the positive potential limit is extended to values higher than 0.5 V (vs. SCE), poly-o-aminophenol (POAP) films suffer an irreversible deterioration process. This deterioration process affects the different charge transport and charge transfer processes through the films, from the metal to the solution, when a mediation reaction occurs at the polymer-electrolyte interface. Particular attention was paid to the effects of the degradation on the redox capacity and ion and electron transports inside the polymer film. The redox behaviour of both freshly and degraded POAP films was compared in the presence of the p-benzoquinone/hydroquinone (Q/HQ) redox couple by using Rotating Disk Electrode Voltammetry (RDEV). Also, an ac impedance study of these POAP films in the presence of this redox couple was carried out. The dependencies of the different charge transport and charger transfer parameters on the degree of degradation were obtained. Degradation should affect strongly the conducting properties of the polymer in its practical applications.
