Resumen:
Silica nanoparticles attached to gallic acidwere synthesized from 7-nm diameter fumed silicaparticles by different functionalization methods involvingthe condensation of hydroxyl or carboxylgroups. The particles were characterized by thermalanalyses and UV?vis, FTIR, NMR, and EPR spectroscopies. In comparison to free gallic acid, enhancedstability and increased antimicrobial activityagainst Paenibacillus larvae were found for thefunctionalized nanoparticles. Thus, both derivatizationstrategies result in improved properties of thenatural polyphenol as antimicrobial agent for thetreatment of honeybee pathologies.
