Resumen:
The imidazoline derivatives naphazoline (NZ), tetrahydrozoline (TZ),oxymetazoline (OZ) and xylometazoline (XZ) are widely used as oculardecongestant in pharmaceutical preparations. The rate constants of the reactionsof these drugs and the model compound 2methyl2imidazoline (IZ) with bothsulfate (SO4.) and hydrogen phosphate (HPO4.) were determined. The reactionintermediates formed after the reaction of the SO4. radicals with the imidazolinederivates were studied by flashphotolysis. The experimental absorption spectra ofthe intermediates were compared to those obtained from theoreticaltimedependent density functional calculations with explicit account for bulksolvent effects. The results obtained here provide important information to understand possiblealternative photodegradation routes for aqueous-pollutants in the presence ofdissolved inorganic matter.
