Resumen:
Synchronization across spikes in neuronal populations has been linked to informationtransmission and sensory perception in the brain. That is, the spiking activity of corticalneurons may not be independent and several studies have explored the importance of thiscorrelated activity. We investigate synchronized activity generated in groups of neuronsof different population sizes by means of an information theory approach, and by usinga computational model accounting for correlation structures of different orders in theneuronal inputs to that population. The synchronization patterns result fundamental forinformation coding in the brain where different areas may be coupled asymmetrically andit becomes a relevant issue for understanding how sensory perception is processed in the cerebral cortex.
