Resumen:
Diadema Underground Gas Storage (DUGS) is situated near Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, Argentina. The gas is placed in a depleted gas reservoir from the Banco Verde horizon, belonging to the Salamanca Formation. Due to the presence of overlaying water-supply aquifers, a monitoring plan was developed, to characterize the injected gas, the original reservoir gas and the aquifer dissolved gas. It has been possible to distinguish between the three sources, characterizing them by their own geochemical and isotope signature. The use of isotopic toolswas not restricted to hydrocarbon gases; also d13CCO2 and molecular composition were able to identify components. At present, continuous periodical gas sampling and monitoring are applied to follow the DUGS.
