In the case of the Río Doncellas site, due to the ubiquity of Zea mays macroremains, this method has led to relate the production of Zea mays to their participation in human food. In this paper, we aim to discuss the impact of this cultigen on biological and social reproduction from a broader consumption approach, without necessarily relating it to daily human diet. Therefore, we will display the results of carbon isotope analysis (δ13C) on both organic and inorganic parts of human bones which are, so far, associated with a diet characterized by resources with a photosynthetic pattern (C3) different from that of maize (C4).
