For more than 7 years TenarisSiderca has been using a grade transition model developed by CINI, GRADE, in order to reduce the amount of wasted steel due to mixture of steel grades. During these years the model proved to be a robust and reliable tool to predict the amount and location of the steel to be downgraded. GRADE has also been used to optimize the sequence order from a list of different steel grades to be cast. However, the procedure of sequence optimization by multiple (manual) executions of GRADE becomes impracticable when several steel grades are to be considered. Thus, CINI developed an algorithm named SEQUENCE which automatically analyzes the possible sequences from a list of steel grades and choose the best ones.
